Originally based in Perth, Jonathan "Stretch" Fowler joined an amateur music production in the late 1960's. His involvement as a bass player and sound designer saw several musical productions tour to Adelaide and Melbourne in the late 60's. He completed a Technician Certificate course in Perth in 1975 whilst simultaneously playing one of Perth's successful (early) 70's bands. Stretch moved to Melbourne in 1975 and worked with sound design and operation at Her Majesty's, Princess, Comedy and Palais Theatres. His diverse experience included lighting and sound operation for large theatre and concert venues as well as design for a couple of smaller comedy and puppetry shows. After touring the East coast as a bass guitarist with several backing bands during the later 70's and early 80's, Stretch moved to Sydney in 1980 and started working for Telstra as a Technical Officer with a specialist support section, a position he held until 1997.
In 1997 Stretch started Ozcan Pty Ltd (technical services) specialising in location sound recording and media transfer.
After a fourteen year absence from theatre Stretch has worked as stage and set manager and sound designer for several fringe theatre groups including Fly on the Wall Theatre Company's productions of "Julius Caesar" and "As You Like It". In 1999 he designed lighting for Jubilate Singers production of Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" which was later mounted for a production at St Andrew's Cathedral during the Olympics in 2000 and again with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Choir's production in 2001. He has continued to work as a freelance sound/lighting designer/operator with the PACT Theatre, Jazzright Productions and O'Punksky's production of William Zappa's "Winters Discontent" which featured at Adelaide and Dublin Fringe Festivals.
Recently Stretch has been resident Theatre Operations Technician at the Power House Museum in Sydney.
